Scuderia Ferrari star driver Charles Leclerc kicked off a unique 42-hour karting marathon at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet,
in tribute to his friend and mentor Jules Bianchi. The event, created more than ten years ago by Philippe Bianchi, Jules' father,
pays vibrant tribute to the young French driver who died tragically in 2015, following an accident during the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix.
Leclerc, who often spoke of Bianchi as his sporting godfather, was visibly emotional as he kicked off the race on Friday evening.
“Jules was not only a mentor, but a close friend,” said Leclerc, referring to their shared journey in motorsport.
The karting marathon attracted 32 teams and 400 drivers, including Leclerc's fellow drivers and personalities such as actor Tomer Sisley,
Formula 2 driver Isack Hadjar and singer Benjamin Biolay.
