KARTING: THE JULES BIANCHI MARATHON, A RACE THAT GOES BEYOND THE SCOPE OF SPORT

It is under the bright Provence sun that the event supported by Charles Leclerc returned on Friday for a second edition on the Paul-Ricard du Castellet
circuit which will end on Sunday.

Between Philippe Bianchi, father of the late Formula 1 driver Jules, and Franck Lagorce, co-organizer of the event,
the link is palpable. Accomplices, they orchestrate this ordeal with exemplary complementarity.
“We could be husband and wife,” says Philippe with a smirk, lightening the atmosphere.

More than a race, it’s a family coming together this weekend at Le Castellet.
For 42 hours, 19 minutes and 50 seconds – a subtle homage to the ancient marathon event – the drivers compete in a unique format,
in karting certainly, but with the intensity of a real automobile endurance test.

This year, no less than 32 karts took the start, a real success for the organizers.
“It’s not just a question of karts,” Franck Lagorce proudly emphasizes.
Aware of the weight inequalities that have long affected this sport, he explains: “We wanted perfect fairness.”
For this, only two categories of karts will be competing: 240 kilos and 270 kilos (weight including driver, fuel and kart).
